Organizations Fighting BSL

  • American Canine Foundation - is a non-profit organization founded to stop irresponsible dog ownership and abuse to canines. They protect dog owners rights and promote responsible dog ownership through education and legislation.
  • Animal Farm Foundation - is devoted to restoring the image of the American Pit Bull Terrier and to protect them from discrimination and cruelty.
  • ADOA (American Dog Owners Association) - the voice of responsible dog owners and member dog organizations from across the United States, advocating for the protection of the public health and safety, the protection of dogs and the right to own, keep and enjoy dogs.
  • National Canine Research Council - was formed to publish accurate, documented, reliable research to promote a better understanding of the human-canine bond.
  • Animal Law Coalition - works to stop animal cruelty and suffering through legislation, administrative agency action, and litigation. ALC offers legal analysis of the difficult and controversial issues relating to animals.
  • RDOWS(Responsible Dog Owners of the Western States) - Responsible Dog Owners of the Western States was formed in 1989 to protect the civil, and Constitutional rights, and interests of dog owners.
  • DogWatch - is a source of information on breed specific legislation (BSL).
  • Stop BSL - a group who is dedicated to seeing the end of breed specific legislation.
  • Defense of the American Pit Bull Terrier (DAPBT) - is a group focused on and dedicated to defending the American Pit Bull Terrier. This site was founded and owned by one of our own FABB members.
  • Defending Dog - is dedicated to fighting against Breed Specific Legislation.
  • Canine Aggression Consulting - Consultant Jim Crosby - Canine aggression research, Expert dog attack and dog bite consulting and Dog bite prevention and safety.
  • ROVERerlution- is a national dog owners’ advocacy group adamantly opposed to restrictive laws and policies that serve to prevent dog ownership on the basis of breed selection or size limitations.
  • AKC (American Kennel Club) - strongly opposes any legislation that determines a dog to be “dangerous” based on specific breeds or phenotypic classes of dogs.
  • CHAKO (Coalition of Human Advocates for K9s & Owners) - is a national Dog Owners’ Education and Advocacy Group and is for all dog owners. CHAKO holds public education events, offer CGC testing periodically, and battle laws that adversely impact responsible dog owners.
  • ENPA (National Board for Animal Protection) - is the main and the oldest protective association in Italy. Established in 1871 by Giuseppe Garibaldi, Enpa carries out its activities through all those sectors aimed to the safeguard and well being of animals.
  • Monthly National Legislation Report- is published once a month listing all reports of dog and animal legislation in all States and other countries - as available.
  • Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) - is a professional organization of individual trainers who are committed to becoming better trainers through education.

Rescue Organizations

  • Pit Bull Rescue Central - is a virtual shelter and resource for owners and caretakers of American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and pit bull mixes.
  • Bad Rap (Bay Area Doglovers Responsible for Pitbulls) - is an organization devoted to helping pit bull owners, trainers, educators, rescuers, and supporters. This group evolved out of a desire to respond to the difficult issues facing a misunderstood breed.
  • DRAW (Dog Rescue Around Washington) - a group devoted to rescue and rehoming dogs in need of forever homes.
  • BullsEye Dog Rescue - targets forever homes for deserving dogs: Pit Bulls and other bully breeds waiting in shelters for a second chance. We partner with Puget Sound region shelters to promote breed knowledge, develop practical adoption policies and practices, and help find permanent homes for a select few.
  • Homeward Pet - a no kill Pit Bull friendly shelter located in Woodinville, WA. Visit the website to see dogs and cats waiting for their forever home, and foster home and volunteer opportunities.
  • Best Friends Animal Society - was formed based on the simple philosophy that kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.

Canine Organizations

  • American Temperament Testing Society (ATTS) - is a national not-for-profit organization for the promotion of uniform temperament evaluation of purebred and spayed/neutered mixed-breed dogs.
  • Reading with Rover - is a community based literacy program that uses dogs to assist children with reading difficulties.
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) - is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
  • Delta Society - is an organization that seeks to improve human health through service and therapy animals.
  • Therapy Dogs International - is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their Therapy Dogs for visitations to institutions, facilities, and any other place where Therapy Dogs are needed.
  • D.A.W.G (Dog Advisory Work Group) - is a unique coalition of dog guardians and non-dog guardians, individuals and groups, private and public organizations, working together to help communities improve the overall coexistence of dogs, dog guardians and non-dog guardians. We celebrate and wish to add to the work of others.
  • Project Pits - is a group that pairs together rescue pit bulls with youth offenders who obedience train and help prepare the dogs for adoption as family pets.

  • Ahimsa Dog Training - a positive method dog training facility in Ballard.
  • Great Dog - We offer a wide variety of services including canine education courses, a non-profit that is focused on helping people in our community find housing that will take people with dogs, especially the bully and large breed dogs.
  • FunQuest Dog Sports - owner and trainer Pritamo Kentala will teach you and your dog all you need to know about agility. Pritamo offers group classes at Ahimsa Dog Training or private sessions.
